Default A few more lighthouses in Portland Maine, Oct 31 2009

OK, I went back to Portland quite determined to capture some lighthouses!

This is "part 2", "part 1" can be seen here

I am thinking "Part 3" will be shot from a ferry so that should make for a cool perspective.

Here is Ram Island Light, it is more than a mile out to sea and tricky to capture from land.

Here is Portland Head Light, Maine's most famous lighthouse and was actually commissioned by George Washington.

There are a lot of other buildings to see near the Portland Head light.

Here is the little "Bug Light".

There is a ship builder's memorial near there.

Hey that ferry kept whizzing by while I was shooting, it gave me the idea to ride it next time

Here are boats in the dock.

And from there I can see Spring Point Light.

It is a curious light with 900 feet of granite leading to it.

Fort Georges can be seen in the background.

And the Coast Guard trolls by.

Little Fort Preble can be seen from the granite walk.

From my family photos - my sister and niece were here in 1986.

Here is Cape Elizabeth Light.

From my family photos - here it is shot by my mother in 1982 :

And finally Cape Elizabeth Light's former western tower, now out of commission.

That makes 6 lighthouses in Portland Maine

My sister and mother used Kodak disc 4000 (click). I (mostly) used my Nikon D40 with 18-55 and shot in RAW. I also used Kodak Z8612 and Pentax DS.

Thanks for looking
Craig

I like #5 best, it's cool, although straightening the lighthouse would improve the image.

Some pictures have a blue tint, which on the sea and the sky isn't a problem, but it's a little distracting on the white houses and boats. As you have set editing your images is OK, I might have a go at a few of them to check how they look corrected.

Some of the pictures also look very similar, being a little more selective would have increased the overall impact.

Have a nice day.

Korman - no one will take your critiques seriously knowing that you aren't a shooter as well.

Don't be a coward, grab a camera and get out there and do some shooting like the rest of us, then we can critique your photos

I'm not a shooter, I take pictures with a camera. Shooting things is to kill them, and I don't really want to do that. But this might be a cultural thing, as Americans seem to have a hard time to enjoy things without martial or violent associations.

And if you want to add your comments to my pictures, feel free. I posted a few images for review over the past years, some in their own threads some in other threads for review, you just need to look them up.

Two pics with no EXIF and over a thousand critiques, you aren't fooling anyone. I doubt those are even your pics. The jig is up

It's very telling, that you need EXIF-informations to know whether you like an image or not. One of these days you should try and look at the images and judge if they have impact instead of wanking over EXIF-records and technicalities. That would improve your own pictures too.
