Hello from Maine,
While driving I sometimes cut through an abandoned parking lot to avoid a traffic light - it puzzles me that no business can stay open in this lot - every other lot in town is booming but this one is like a mini ghost town. My father thinks that maybe the owner lives far away and doesn't have a good idea about the average local rents and charges too much, so no one wants to rent it. That's a good speculation. Other than that it may be haunted as a troubled teenager hung himself in the woods behind the building around 1995. I don't believe in hauntings but it makes for a good narrative... Today when cutting through that parking lot with my daughter I decided to slow down and take a few pics with my pocket camera. There was also a friendly old French man I "captured". Here is a light that is coming apart : ![]() At the base of the light there is broken glass and grass is coming up through the pavement : ![]() Here is a 3 shot panoramic of the side of the main building, showing the graffiti and overgrowth : ![]() The back of the smaller building, also graffiti but much more growth : ![]() The friendly old French man we "captured" : ![]() And the photographer's assistant : ![]() Thanks for looking ![]() Craig Taken with Kodak V803 pocket camera __________________

You see, this is more than just pictures of an abandoned parking lot, it is an illustration of how our structures and lots can come undone when abandoned for a relatively small amount of time - this is particularly true in places that freeze, like New England, it really breaks the tar up each winter.
So, your local supermarket could look like this if abandoned for less than 10 years. What would a metropolis that houses a million people look like if abandoned for 20 years? See this city that was next to Chernobyl. Photo gallery. Materials about: Pripyat, Chernobyl accident I find it interesting. Cheers, Craig |

Interesting set. It is a time to be cherished when we are in a mindset when almost any scene can spark our creativity.
