Default Just Arrived....Sigma 150-600mm Contemporary

Yesterday afternoon I finally made the decision to go ahead with the purchase of the Sigma 150-600mm Contemporary Lens. I placed the order with B&H via the PC and by 11:30 am today, less than 19 hours later, the lens arrived via UPS. Included in the cost of the lens was a Sigma 95mm lens protector and the Sigma USB Dock.

I've spent about 2 hours so far just getting familiar with the switches on the lens, attaching the straps, downloading the USB Dock software and reading the associated manuals. I still have not mounted the lens to the camera.

So far I have a very favorable impression of the lens. It looks & feels well constructed. The 95mm glass on the lens looks pristine and beautiful. The Custom Settings switch is something to explore at a latter time.

So hopefully tomorrow I'll mount the lens to the Canon 70d and give it a shot. Today is the 9th consecutive day of gray skies and rain & tomorrow is a 100% chance of rain for most of the day. That means I will not get to try this lens for birding until Sat/Sun or the beginning of the week.

Bill

Bill, Glad your lens got there. I did not get into all the focus adjustments available in the lens software, but did MFA in the 70D and 6D. Much easier than going through all the steps in the lens. The Custom Functions are very easy to set up.

Thanks greenjeans. Before I attempt to do any adjustments I think I best spend some time just getting used to holding this thing and getting a respectable shot. I hope its not too much for me to handle.

Bill

PS...I'm thankful this came with a 95mm lens protector. I always worry about hurting a lens, especially this one.

You buy something 600mm long... it should get there quicker than 19 hours.

Hope you aren't hand holding it on a decent hike.......

Hey Mr Pickles...

Yes, this lens weighs in at 4 1/2 pounds, plus the weight of the camera. My birding experience thus far has been extremely limited, so I have not yet done hiking to find the birds. If I can get some good photos then I'm not going to do much complaining about the lens weight. Besides, I can sure use the exercise.

Thanks wolfd. Today Is our 10th consecutive day of now sunshine, chilly and rain showers. In fact today is the worst with heavy rain. So, I'm not sure when I will get the first opportunity to snap a few shots. Even the birds in the back yard have taken to hiding.

Hope you enjoy your lens as much as I love mine, I use the Op/tech shoulder strap so the weight is easy to handle.

It was about 11 months ago when the Sigma 150-600 arrived. All last summer I had very little opportunity to use the lens. However, this past January thru April while in Florida I was finally able to begin learning how to use the big Sigma. I'm still learning and in the process getting some OK shots. I'm using the lens with a Canon 70d and wish I could try the lens with the Canon 7d Mark ii to get the faster focus speed for BIF. What do you think of these photos so far
