Default Sigma 150-600 vs Tamron 150-600

Hello Folks........

I'm in the early stages of purchasing a longer lens. Both the Sigma and Tamron 150-600 seems to fit my needs optically and well as monetarily. They both seem to be priced around $989.

I've read many different reviews, one will favor the Sigma and then the other will favor the Tamron brand.

Based on your experience which would you recommend?

Thanks for taking the time to read this post and I look forward to any and all advice.

Bill

I have the Tamron and chose it over the Sigma because the focus ring is larger making it easier to locate (if needed). Could have gone either way, I like the base you can buy to upgrade the firmware for the Sigma lens. From what I have seen your going to get a quality lens either way (but will not approach the sharpness of a prime). Good luck.

Thanks Wallace. Next month I plan to visit the local camera shop and try each lens on my camera. Hopefully that will help to make the final decision.

I bought the Sigma because the zoom ring operated in the same direction as my Canons and the dock, which I did not buy at first, was available. Have updated firmware and set custom functions with the dock and am very pleased. I see lots of great pictures taken with both. I think B&H and Adorama are including the dock with lens purchase right now.

greenjeans....

Thanks for the comments. Your description makes me anxious to give the Sigma 150-600 a try. I currently have a Sigma 17-70 and that lens performs well.

Thanks again,

Bill

PS...you name reminds me of Mr Greenjeans on the Captain Kangaroo show when I was a kid.

A secretary gave me that nickname many years ago and it just stuck. No rhyme or reason for it.

I've been reading one comparison after another. Some favor the Tamron and some the Sigma. It seems to be a toss up. I do like the idea of the Sigma Dock that can be used with the lens and a PC.

The best price I have found for the Sigma is $929. I won't make a purchase until I get home later next month.

I haven't looked but I wonder what kind of prime lens you could get for that price.

I too have not looked at primes, but I suspect the cost would be many times more that $989.
