Hello Folks....

After weeks of deliberation, research, procrastination, etc...I took the plunge and ordered the Sigma 150-600mm contemporary lens. B&H has a deal that includes the Sigma dock and a Sigma protection filter. It should arrive via UPS tomorrow.

Bill

PS...thanks to all for the help in making the final choice.

Hey greenjeans....

Thanks for the encouragement. After seeing some of your photos I'm convinced the lens is good.....now I'm worried that I might not be able to master the equipment. Time will tell. For the past week it has been rain & gray skies and more on the way for the next 3 days. So I'm not sure when I will get the opportunity to spend a day trying the lens.

Bill

You can get a Canon 400/5.6 prime for about that. It's a great lens and I still have one. I rarely use it now, though, since the convenience of a zoom (I now have the 100-400) is very nice.

Thanks for the link. Intereting report. The weather here has been horrible so I not yet had the opportunity to shoot with the new Sigma. Hope to do something with it today. I would be delighted to get results like the photos in the blog.

Thanks again,

Bill

You would do well to forget about the Sigma ( protection)filter. I got all kinds of distortion with it. Images are sharper without it. Besides, the lens hood is very deep and gives you all the protection you need.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll remove the lens protector and see what results.
