Sigma 70-210 F2.8 APO ???

Anyone here familiar with the older Sigma 70-210 F2.8 APO? It looks to have been two types a 77mm. dia and a 82mm dia. Any concerns with these and Canon digital SLRS getting the dreaded E99 message and lockup? This looks to be a fast lens and above avg. performance, how may these models stand up to the new 70-200 F2.0 APO HSM models? I assume the motor in the 70-210F.2.8 APO is not as fast nor quiet but maybe I'm guessing.

Anyways if others here are familiar with these I'd appreciate info.

the 70-210 is an old mdel. they focus slow. i have not heard a lot on them. the 70-200 hsm is as good as the canon/nikon models. its only down side is lack of is/vr.

Once upon a time, Canon tweaked their lens mount circuitry. Since Sigma reverse engineers the "smarts" (they don't license it from Canon), their lenses would not work on the newer bodies, and issue an Error 99. For awhile Sigma would rechip their lenses for ya for free (you paid the shipping I think), but that time was up a couple years or so ago.

I've just sold my 70-210 APO F2.8 (older model), it is a great lens, it worked fine on an eos 1ds, 30d and a 5d. I would recommend this lens to anybody that can't afford L series glass, in my opinion it gets very close on quality, build quality is good, just a touch heavy. I have attached a couple of picture taken with this lens.
