About two weeks ago my wife dropped my 70-200mm f/2.8 Non-OS. I thought the lens was a gonner but it still works fine(I didn't tell her that. Teacher her a lession to don't touch my gears)
She agreed to pay for half of what this lens was worth so now I am thinking about upgrading it.I read some reviews and got some mix report on it. But dpreview said this lens isn't that great open wide. I really want the Nikon 70-200mm vrII but can't justifiy the extra $1,000 on it. I am looking for anyone who used the OS version of this lens in a portrait setting. Mainly shot open wide at f/2.8 at 200mm. Thanks __________________

Since no one has this lens I took the chance and put the order in yesterday and it came in today. Gotta love amazon prime! I did some quick test shots around the house and so far I am happy with it open wide. It does get sharper after f/4 but it is sharp enough at f/2.8.
Tomorrow I will do some test shots with my 3 years old son and I will really get a feel of this lens. |

I didn't have a ff body when I bought my Os version but, never the less I have been happy with its performance with a cropped sensor. I have a 24 to 70 if ex dg version that I have done portraits with with both full and cropped sensors. It is sharp edge to edge. Good luck - I hope you are pleasantly surprised as I have had great luck with my Sigy's.

Your wife accidentially dropped one of your lenses, but did not damage it as you say it "Still works fine". So, to teach your wife a lession you are going to have her pay you for half of the lens's current worth even though it still works fine? Sounds like your wife is one lucky woman to have you for a husband. |

I also have the lens and it's my work horse. I use it for portraiture and sports extensively.
YES, it is soft wide opened-as many lenses are. I generally stay around f/4, but even stopping to f/3.2 is a MARKED improvement on sharpness. The new versions of the name brand lenses definitely are worth the $1000 more, but if you don't have it? This is an amazing lens. I upgraded to this lens from the Tamron 70-200 because of the speed of focusing and the OS for wedding work and I am SO glad I bit the bullet. I still use the Tamron for macro work, but the Sigma is on one of my cameras almost constantly. All shot with the Sigma 70-200 OS-NONE at f/2.8 though! ![]() ![]() ![]() __________________
