Default Sigma 24-70mm f /2.8 on D7000

Any one with experience in using this combo?
How does it compare with the Nikkor 24-85mm f /2.8-4?
I need to take a quick. purchase decision
Many thanks for some sage advice!

Overall speaking a lens with a constant aperature is mostly better than one with a variable aperature . i think it do fine on the D7K

Nikon lens is guaranteed compatible with the D7k . so if you are are brands must mix guy i go for 100% nikon otherwise the signik or niksig combo will also do great .

just look up reviews (read as many as you can and decide on the buget and buy what money can buy if you are paying your life with photgraphy get the very best you can .

Now if I'm not mistaken that is a DX or cropped sensor. I have the newest 24-70 Sigy which I believe EX HSM IF DC on my Canon 7D and I can say it works very well. I owned a 5D which was full frame and at that time I compared it to the Canon L version side by side and could'nt justify the added 400.00 at the time. It was as sharp edge to edge as the Canon. I've never had problems with the focusing in low light or any lighting situation.

Good-luck with your decision!

Brady

yeah the D7000 is a DX camera so FF or oven DX lenses have to suffer from the cropfactor of 1.5 for nikon

this lens will cat on the body like a 36-105 mm (what you loose in the wide end is gained at tele)

My widest lens back when I had my 35mil equipment was a 28mm which I learned to use an love for its purpose that I instilled in it. If it starts at 36mm, one needs to find other perspective or angles to make that limitation work. I really liked my main subjects in the fore-ground which added to the wide angle perspective, and let me tell you I've got plenty of negatives filling that roll. I would love another FF body for that very factor but, there either to expensive or cumbersome for all genres of photography.

it will still show 24mm on the lens but in exif it will show 36mm compaired to 35 mm

shure brady a ff body is nice to have but the fun with dx is that your ff lenses have a longer reach. would you be using a ff lense on a ff body the lens will act as labeled and exif will show 24mm -70mm (here you regain the wide end but loose in the tele part ) optically te quality of the lens doesn't change it is just because the DX sensor is smaller than a FF sensor and thus to compensate that there is the crop factor of 1.5 for nikon

i like to play with wide end too only my budget does not allow this .

I use that lens on my D7000 all the time. It is the HSM version but I have had good results with it on both my D700 and D7000. Only thing I don't like about it is that it uses a bigger filter than all the rest of my Nikon Lens. For that reason alone I am considering switching out to the Nikon version the next time they upgrade it.

At 82mm it is larger than the Canon version at 77mm. Not big on filters especially UV's. Once the filters are purchased does that validate spending more money on a lens. If you have room for them in your bag why?

Just a thought!

What is meant by constant aperture is that the range is 2.8 only compared to some other lenses having a range of 5.6,4.0,2.8!
