Default New lens

Got my new lens today. I ordered the 70-200 2.8 II Macro version from B & H. At first glance and a little playing with seems like its a pretty good lens. Feels good in my hand. Seems to focus pretty fast. I will be putting it to the test this weekend. I will be shooting the FL. Supermoto event. Hope it works out. Anyone have much experience with this lens?

I have the same lens for my Olympus e3, it works very well although it took a little getting used to. On mine, the sweet spot is f5.6 and f8 and it works best just short of the 200mm mark, but its only a minor difference and I often end up using it full out. Its a heavy lens which is both a help and a hinderance, if you get it steady, it will stay there, if its moving, it will keep moving. Thank Newton for that feature. Because of the weight, you should practice holding the lens and camera by the lens, not the body as this will tend to loosen the lens mount on the body or possibly cause some distortion of the mount itself.

Good luck with your new piece of gear, practice will make perfect.

Which camera are you using it on?

I am shooting it on Nikon D300s. I did use it yesterday shooting for several hours of a Supermoto event. I was moving around so much that the weight was not really a factor. I think the speed is really good. I was able to look at a few of the pics and the lens takes really good pics. They seem to be real sharp. For the $, I am very pleased with it.
