Default Good printer for photos.....

Can anyone recommend a good printer for printing out photos? I've heard that Canon and HP printers are less desirable then Epson printers. The reason I heard is the ink used by Epson is of a superior quality and is not prone to the fading of Canon or HP...

I presently have a Canon IP6700d and notice if I print my photos on my own printer the color and contrast/brightness matches what is displayed on my monitor alot closer then if I use the services of a local photo company or Walmart Photocentre...

Any thoughts?

Cheers

My HP just crashed and I am ready for a new photo printer too. I don't want a full scanner/printer, but was going to investigate just a photo printer.

I am having a hard time finding 5x7 matte and glossy sized photo paper anywhere.

Has anyone had any luck or any input as to the Kodak photo printers? Good or bad? I need to do 4x6, 5x7 and up on glossy and matte finish.

BTW, I was not happy with my HP all around printer but was stuck with it.

Thanks!

I would not say I was unhappy with my HP but it does a good enough job to A4 size. One friend indicated to me that his Epson drank ink badly. Te HP is not too bad in that regard but it is bad enough.

Considering my time, the cost of paper, and the cost of ink, I'm better buying prints rather than buying a printer. I don't have the option of fancy papers that way (metalic, for example), but just something to consider. I'm also lucky enough to have two local, economical sources for decent prints (Roberts & Costco).

I have a pair of older Epson printers (R220, R300). I use them for non-critical color jobs. When I was buying EPSON cartridges it was hard on the budget, but the color was great on Epson paper. I now use third party inks and continuous ink systems, but the color is a little off when I print photos on good paper. I have considered getting custom profiles for the printers, but as I said at the start - considering I can get a nice 8x12 print for $1, I can't justify printing myself.

I have a Canon Pro 9000 and have been very happy with it (I've also seen many reviews where it's ranked as one of the best). The ink is rated to last 100 years before showing signs of fading. I doubt any of my clients or myself will live long enough to see a faded photo if the rating is accurate.
