Default Mat cutter question

I am looking into getting a mat cutter, but had a question. I am needing to cut mats for up to 20x30 prints. Am I going to have to get a 40" cutter for this? I'm assuming I would, but just want to make sure.

If you are going to be using full-sized matboard (32 x 40) and cutting to size, yes you will. I am using the Logan 640 Framer's Edge and couldn't be happier with the quality of the mats I cut.

Ok, thanks. I've been looking at the logan 450. I think that'll be the one I end up getting.

I have a Logan 450; and, it general works well. The one problem, however, is that when cutting the outside of a mat it can be difficult to get it square. The edge against which you butt the mat is just too small to be trustworthy for getting it perfectly square. I do not remember the model number of the next higher model; but, it is identical to the 450, with the addition of a large extension arm for assuring a square outside dimension. Were I buying again, I would consider that model.

PS. I just took a look at Logan's web site. If I were buying now, I would opt for model #750. It is similar to the 450, but with the addition of a 27" squaring arm. That arm would definitely be a Godsend in reducing mat size.

I have the 450 as well and totally agree. I am trying to figure a way to may a DIY arm for it. I don't know how they expect you to cut anything square with a 6" staright edge
