I have a client who is wanting me to put his photos on a cd. He wants me to scan a photo and put a description about the photo but not on the photo. Then, if he wanted to just print the photo without the description or print them both but separately he would be able to. It would be like writing a description about the photo on the back of the photo. Except now with scanning to a cd you can't see what you wrote. So, I am trying to figure out a way to put the photo on the cd with the description. Has anyone done this before and how did you do achieve the result?
I tried with Adobe Acrobat 9 Standard but can't get exactly what I want. I copied and pasted the photo in Acrobat 9 and imported the word document with the description. I had to convert it to a pdf for the photo and word document to combine but now the photo is a pdf file and not the jpg file. Then I created a portfolio in Adobe Acrobat 9 where I can keep the photo as a jpg and I can write a description. The only thing is the description doesn't print if he wanted to print it. Help on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Kaye __________________

Have you looked at using somethign like Jalbum to create gallery page which could be viewed in a web browser? Lots of skins available for that one.

Thanks Zemlin for replying. My client doesn't want it that way. He wants to archive his photos by putting them on a cd and to be able to insert the cd and view the photo with the description and then print the photo if he so chooses.

Jalbum creates all the files locally - can preserve the full scale images and make them accessible via a click. Copy the album folder to a CD and you're there. HTML works better from a CD than it does from the www.
Not saying that Jalbum is the best tool for the job, but there are scads of HTML gallery options - that's just the one that works for me. |

Thank you Zemlin. I looked at the JAlbum but I want something that I can create without having to use the web. But, I will mention it to my client. I use Shutterfly sometimes and I know you can post photos and include comments to the photos plus have them printed.

Jalbum is a stand-alone application that you run on your computer - it uses the images stored on your computer to create files on your computer that you can view on your computer. It can and does run completely independent of, and without any need of the WWW or an internet connection.
They have an album hosting service which they encourage you to use and pay for, but the program works well without that. |

Zemlin is thinking in the right direction: you can generate thumbnails with a description, jalbum generates a link to the original. Clicking on the thumbnail goes to the big image that your client can print ...
On smugmug you can have an album +priniting service, you can even add text to the back of the print. |

Take a look at Thumbs Plus Pro. Its the program I use to sort with but it has more features than the average user will ever use. It has database features so images can be arranged into albums without moving the actual files. It will do thumbnail views, full screen views, and custom slide shows. Those "notations" can be added and viewed in the thumbnail view.
It will print through either windows or in a PP program by way of custom launch buttons in the menu bar. I do not know that it will print the notations on the picture though. Steve |

Songman45, Thanks for replying. I will check that out. When it prints, I don't want the comments printed on the photo. When there was nothing but film and you printed the photo out, I would always put comments about the photo on the back on the photo. I'm trying to figure out how to accomplish that in the digital world. I know the comments won't be on the back of the photo but somehow when you view the photo on a cd, you can click on the photo and see the comments.

Yeah, do check it out. In thumbnail view there is an option of have a caption display or the file name display. Also there is an option for mouse-over pop-up tips. Like most programs, it has features and power I never use.
