At the moment I'm still using my Epson Stylus 870 printer. Thinking about getting myself a new one. I'm not sure which one to get.....R1900/R2400 or it's successor R2880?
Does onyone have experience with these printers? Any recommendation? Maybe it's even worth to go A2 printing?? Results are most important...and after that ofcourse costs (ink etc.). Thnxs for any help/advice! __________________

the larger you go the less expensive ink will be (but will stay expensive).
when going larger you have to check if you want to stay with sheets or if roll-feed is an option. Personally i do not like the roll (and i do not have the space for a larger printer). I simpy adore my Epson Stylus Pro 3800 . . . Paper cost is another story. Profilling has to be thought of too unless using a brand with profiles for your printer or using manufacturer's paper. time is a factor to consider too as you will need to spend some time to do the work yourself. None of these considerations have stopped me of preferring doing the prints myself ![]() |

mujana,
What are your needs? Have you been doing your own printing until now? Do you think you'd print A3 or A2? Where do you see all this printing going in the future? Are you in business for yourself? Read up on Epsons site about these printers and determine what their differences are and ask yourself if you need or want them presently or in the future. You're going to get great results with any printer you listed as long as you use Epson ink, Epson paper(or other papers with profiles for your printer&ink) and have a properly color managed workflow. I've had an Epson R300 for a long time but didn't do much printing, recently I bought a used Epson 2200 and the results are great for me. I had to do a lot of maintenance and fixing but it was a good learning experience since any printer will clogg and have issues at some point. You can buy a refurbished R1900 from Epson for 380$ |

Thank you for your advice.
I do not print that much myself (with my present printer); pro lab does my printing every now and then. No I'm not a pro, but I do like optimum quality. In short, the best quality possible. If necessary suitable for exibitions in art galleries. My Epson always suited me fine, though it's definitely not the quality (or print size) I want. At least larger format (and if possible better quality). Thnxs again for your advice. At the moment the 2880 looks very tempting (and take really big prints to lab), but the difference between this one and the 1900 is not completely clear yet...will google some more). |

Isn't the 2880 also 17 inches wide as opposed to 13 for the R1900? Most my work is in 8X10's and 5X7's and since the R1800 R800 pairing is gone I've been looking at the R1900. Something inside wants to lay down the extra money (the gear bug) just so I can do 16X20's without sending them out.

Thanks for straightening that out. I saw one at Fry's the other day that was 17 but I forgot the model number. I was busy licking my chops and daydreaming about 16X20's to remember. I believe it was the nearly $2K price tag that pulled me out of it.
