Question about gloss optimizer on Epson R1900? - PhotoCamel

I can't get a definative answer from the Epson website, so I thought I would throw this out to you experts. Does the gloss optimizer get used every time on a print or is it only used on certain substrates? So if I pick Luster paper (from profiles) which is considered a semi/medium gloss is the gloss optimizer used from the printer? I also noticed in the preference section that gloss is picked, if I click this off the gloss optimizer won't be used (is that a safe assumption?)?

sorry to ask a confusing or possibly to some an obvious question.

That's the way mine works. If you click off the gloss it won't get used, if you select matte it won't get used, if it is set to auto I believe it will determine how much gets used on it's own.
