Always an option. Can be very cost effective if you are doing lots of custom sizes in small amounts and just get mat board with no openings cut. Personally, I do not like doing the work of cutting so prefer to have them cut for me.

My response was less about what I do and more about why people may not be answering. Plus it 'bumps' the thread back up where others will see it.

There are some adult ed classes in my area. One of them is about cutting your own mats and mounting your own photos.

Perhaps there is a similar class near you? If you don't want to take the class, perhaps you could have some projects for them to work on? It would get your matting done, and also people would get to fulfill their course. Of course, most people taking a class like that would do so to mount and mat their own work.

I have the Logan Intermediate Mat Cutter (I think it is model 450?) and I love it. It accepts full sheets of mat board and makes beautiful bevel cuts. It took a little practice, but now I don't have to worry about how to crop a photo to get the full image in a standard frame. I got mine at Hobby Lobby, it is usually $200, but they almost always have a 40% coupon on their website. Worth every penny!

Bryan,
Check out your local frame shop. If you need to find one go to PMA | PPFA Home Page. That's the website of the Professional Picture Framers Association. Click 'Find a framer' and add your zip.

Thank you for the link Bart, timely link for me and worth some K. Turns out there is a PPFA member a lot closer than I had hoped.
