Question Giclee...

What is the difference between a giclee and a regular inkjet print?
Anyone know?
Is a print I print on my epson 7600, 24inch, ultrachrome ink printer a giclee?

Thanks!

From what I understand...nothing (or maybe the quality of ink is improved). Giclee is the art gallery term for inkjet printing. I more associate it with an actual painting that has been scanned and subsequently printed. So that you have a giclee of the painting.

Lori ... The term has come to mean many things to many people and gets used mostly as a marketing ploy to get away from the term inkjet print which has a stigma attached to it because it is associated with low cost, hence considered by many to be poor quality, printing. Your 7600 would be considered by many to produce giclee prints.

Thanks to you both. I ask because a gallery is interested in displaying my prints. They said that giclee prints are more desirable and fetch more money than a "photo." This sounded odd to me because, I thought that no one wanted inkjet prints and as mentioned they were inferior. This made me wonder if giclee was just an inkjet print with a fancy name. Like Cockapoo is a fancy name for a mutt!

According to Wikipedia (and others,) the word "giclée" is derived from the French language word "le gicleur" meaning "nozzle", or more specifically "gicler" meaning "to squirt, spurt, or spray."

In other words, it's a two-dollar word that means "inkjet."

Exactly right, Ellbee! Basically it is male bovine manure that simply fetches a higher price than an 'inkjet print'.
A bit like a 'Lumiquest' or a 'Whale tail' is a cut plastic dishwasher detergent bottle for 50 bucks (and about as much useful effect).
