Default Printing from Photoshop is driving me batty!

So I'm grabbing stuff and making "quickie" prints (meaning non-pro, non-lab but medium-high quality inkjet prints) for my brag book.

Photoshop (CS on a Mac) doesn't remember ANYTHING from one print to the next (unlike GraphicConverter, which remembers my settings from the last thing I printed). It doesn't remember what printer I'm using, the orientation, paper size and type, color management settings, size settings, not even the print quality settings. Fortunately I have a preset with all of those in Print Center, but it doesn't even remember those presets and I have to change them all manually and hope that I didn't forget something.

Any of you Photoshop wizards have some clues?

I'd stick with printing through GC, but through PS I can get 1/8 inch margins all the way around the paper where GC has 1/4 inch margins top and sides and 1/2 inch margin on the bottom ("top and bottom" relative to the print orientation).

No help on Mac's the windows print spooler keeps the printer settings independent of CS. Dont know what your box uses

Hmm. It appears that GraphicConverter talks to the print spooler then, where PS doesn't. Or, I haven't figured out how to make it so.

Now, if I "save the changes" after printing in PS (with nothing actually done to the image other than printing it) it will remember the settings...So - hmm.

I don't see what printer you're using (or which version of the OS) but with an Epson 3800 and Leopard 10.5.5 there's a "Print Settings" dropdown in the print dialog and one of the choices is "Last Used Settings".

You still have to use the page setup but at least print settings are already set.

It's an Epson R280, and I'm running 10.4.11. I don't have a "last used settings" in the Print Center dialog, so that's an improvement in 10.5. I do have custom presets, but they appear to be worthless printing through PS as I have to set everything manually anyway. GC seems to recognize the presets.

Don't know how this will help you...

I run a similar set up (R320).

If I do a [cmd] + [P] (sorry Gates supporters, Mac people will know), I first get the CS print dialogue up. There I just hit return (or click [print]), this will then open up the Epson print dialogue, where all the settings/pre-sets/custom settings are stored/chosen/altered.

You could set the printer default settings before entering photoshop for size and quality settings. Then the only thing to set in Photoshop is the resize to fit checkbox. Maybe. Not something I tried, but makes some sense. Of course, it would have to be reset for printing anything else.

Maybe the use of a program like Qimage would be easier.
