Question LARGE printing

This isn't really photography related, but maybe someone here can help?

I need to create a banner that is 1.5 x 3 meters in size. I want the graphics to retain their dimensions and quality from design to print. I can create the document in this size in PS, but the file will be HUGE.

Is there a more manageable way to do this??

When you say banner.. do you mean banner size on photo paper... or banner as in " printed on Vinyl "

Place in InDesign ( assuming you're using the full Suite )... export out as a EPS... or PDF.

Have you worked with InDesign?

You need to know that the printer can handle the rez you're aiming for. Thus meeting your needs.
What printer will be used.?

Thank you! I'll have a read through that in the morning (getting late here).

Printed on Vinyl. It's a big print company that is offering the banner for free for this event. I am not sure what printer they have. I don't want to pester them because it's free, but I did get an email from him today saying to use 100dpi. That helps a LOT. I saw the banner they donated last year and remember thinking the graphics/design were pretty bad (not the printer's fault). So I want to be sure what I send them is better than what they got last year.

I've never used InDesign. Can I use Photoshop? It's going to be fairly simple, a background color, white text, a graphic on the right side and maybe some patterning overlaid on the background.

I was just going to offer that banners and signs are usually printed at much lower resolutions than photos. I think someone once told me that billboards were printed at 30 ppi!

Anyway, Photoshop should be fine. I have had no issues submitting 8 bit tiff files, and even PSDs to printers for signage. Just fire him an email asking if they can use an 8 bit tiff.

At Photoshopworld 2007 in Vegas we had a class on printing large and that was precisely the point that was being made. The bigger the print, the less resolution it needs since it will be viewed further and further away. This was taught by George Lepp who really knows printing and had some way cool examples of large prints.

Here you can see some of his large prints. The funny thing was they gave a guy grief about using his DSLR to take a picture but not one complaint about my cell

I sent it at 100 DPI. Hopefully that will be fine. I also sent it to him at 300 with the dimensions cut - his suggestion.

Thank you everyone for your help!
