I just bought one as well. I like printing directly to DVD's. Great looking prints so far.

Just got one myself....I've had smaller Epsons (C84-88 ) and loved the pigment ink properties so when they dropped to below $300 it was a no brainer for a hobyist such as I am. The prints are very very good. Ink is very easy to find and not a bank-buster. Use quality paper of course.

You may want to check again on this printer if it is pigment ink you want. According to the epson site, the R1400 uses their Claria High Definition water resistant dye. The R1800 and R2400 use variations of the Pigment ink. The 1800 uses the ultrachrome Hi Gloss with the gloss optimiser and is best for color photos and the R2400 uses the Ultrachrome K3 which is awesome for Black and White prints.. I do mainly color so am holding out for the R1800..

If you think a refurb would be OK, look here.
