Just got back an 18x24 canvas. They did a very good job, and the price was certainly right. Even their list prices are very reasonable.

Here's a tip I learned from a friend who paints in oils on canvas. Go to an art supply store and get some Artists' Gloss (or Mat) Varnish for use on oil and alkyd paintings. Paint the canvas. Use two coats allowing a days drying time between coats. In addition to adding protection to your photo, it really makes it look more like a painting on canvas.

Please let us know if you actually do this with a print from this company. I'd hate to brush it only to find out the ink smears.

I got mine just now and it's awesome. I'll shoot a pic of it later.

How many megapixels does it take for this? My camera Nikon D40 is only 6. Can I safely bump it up that much? Would it be best to do it in increments of 10%?

thanks,
Danny

I was worried too about ink smearing because this company's prints are ink-jet. I had used this varnish before on canvas prints that were done by photo-chemical printing. Nevertheless I went out on a limb and tried it, and it worked just fine; no smearing.

I am fairly sure that 6MP is enough to get you a good print at 24x36. For the best way to handle the upsizing I would give CanvasOnDemand a phone call. They are very helpful.

the canvas itself will take away artifacts because of the texture, 6mp should be just fine. I would probably say it's safe to do 125~150 dpi on canvas for a good quality print, and even 75 dpi for a reasonable one. Mostly if you up size it and do sharpening algorithms.

Res Chart I'm referencing says a 30x20 is okay standard print, with canvas you should be just fine.

I received my free 24x30 canvas last week...very very nice. I live in Canada so the offer applies here too

I liked it so much I ordered two 30x40's this week and got 50% off the second print!

They only require a 150 dpi print so the 6mp camera will do just fine.

Well I just got my canvas!!!

I must say, I am impressed. It looks really good, and I had never expected it to be as big as it is!! I literally have no where to put it, right now it's laying on my bed because I have no walls large enough for it...

Anyway, this is what it looks like:

This is the picture that I got it of:

The only problem I have is that they did not send me the hanging supplies that are supposed to come with the canvas. I sent them an email about it but have yet to receive a reply. It's not a huge problem yet as I have no where to put it, but I will want to hang it up eventually...

I received mine last week. Thanks go out to everyone that posted pics of theirs since it gave me a good idea of the "punch" level. I chose a family wedding pose in a church for my sample, which I felt would be a tough image to print on canvas. Mine turned out a bit punchier than I thought it would, which was great since I anticipated the canvas to be a bit low contrast. Detail was very good at 24" viewing distance, and at 36" all the canvas texture disappears revealing a very nice, detailed picture. The price was right, and there are tons of discounts being advertised to keep orders flowing. I'll use them again.
