Default Question about Canvas Prints?

Have any of you ordered them before? Who do you use?

I usually go through MPix for my prints and they offer Canvas too
http://www.mpix.com/productsinfo.aspx?prod=12

However, I saw that Winkflash offers Canvas for quite a bit cheaper and the only difference I see is that they dont put the black cover on the back

Does anyone know how much of a difference in quality there is as far as Canvas goes? Do you think I am safe ordering the one from Shutterfly?

This is for friends of mine, I did their engagement pics and want to get one on Canvas to give them for their wedding.

Song4themoon,

You may want to consider moving this thread to printing, etc. in an effort to attract more people who might share your interests and needs.

I truly hope this suggestion is positive and works for you,
Tom

I've ordered both regular canvas prints (no backing) and gallery wraps (with backing) in the past. One observation is that if you display the canvas print as-is, in some conditions the wood frame will show through the canvas as a darker 'border' around the outside while the inside portion of the print will be lighter as there's nothing blocking out the light at the back.

This isn't a consideration if the canvas prints will be framed as backing material would be added.

The other advantage of the gallery wrap is they come with the hook at the back already affxied so you can hang it on your wall right away as opposed to having to attach your own hooks.

If you think your friends will be framing the print, it might make sense to just get the canvas print, however if you want to give them something they can put straight onto their walls go with the wrap.

I usually print my 'good' stuff with WHCC but I've asked around in the past and I think most of the providers in this space use canvas that is comparable in quality. The difference would probably be in the printing itself - I imagine a company like WHCC or Mpix would be more rigorous/meticulous in their printing process as they are more geared at professional photographers than a more consumer-oriented service like Shutterfly or Winkflash.

I couldn't tell if Shutterfly's canvas was a regular print or a wrap with backing.

For what it's worth, WHCC offers both types of canvas - regular prints and gallery wraps at comparable prices to Mpix and Winkflash.

I want to go for the Wrap. I have used Winkflash for prints in the past and they are decent, but MPix is better. So I assume that will show in the Canvas too?
