I guess Epson has announced new pro printers. I don't know why the press releases are from the UK.

I am not totally certain, but the word that I hear is that the new Epson Pro Printers are basically identical with the older printers except for their new eriver/engine. I believe that these newer "XX80" models employ the system used in the newe Stylus Pro 3800. If so, the system is better than good. I think it is great and I use the 3800 and the Epson K3 Ultrachrome pigment-based inks.
I hope my info is accurate and not Rocky, Tom..... Tom |

Well, I think you might be very pleasantly surprized. The ink system is large and the ink usage is very reasonable from my experience with the 3800. Furthermore, I find that I can print at half maximum dpi and achieve fantastic results. I also find that I have to nearly look under high magnification to see significant differences between printing at 1440dpi versus 2880 dpi. Wit this said, I am not printing on heavy rag artist papers. I also have not had to clean out the nozzles since I physically started the printer on April 28 and the alignment has not measureably shifted. These printers are wonderful, IMHO.

JDArt,
I had nothing but Epson trouble forever until my new printer. I got rid of my Epsons for a few years and used Canon printers for a few years. I feel the Epson pigment inks are better than Canon and the new Epson printers are crackerjack, and Epson now has very reasonable, accessible and high quality user support. You might find the tables have turned a bit with the K3 Ultrachromes and the Pro 3800, 4800, etc. I cannot speak for Canon v. Epson in any of the larger printers bigger than the Canon 5000.
