Hello all, Interesting comments. I recently A& B'd the Epson R1800 and the Canon Pixma Pro9000. The Epson rep who was on hand told me that the Epson print head would indeed clog if left idle, she further stated that this problem could be avoided by printing at least once a week. A sheet of text would be fine for that purpose, her words.
I bought the Canon and I do not regret. Big beautiful prints a little punchy but easily adjusted. I love it. This is my first "Nice" printer, so take it for what it's worth. Would not trade it for any other I have seen. Still working out the kinks but happy so far.

The more I use my Canon Pixma Pro 9000, the more I love it I have it dialed in now so good it's awesome! The prints come out IMO just as good as the lab, and most times sharper for some reason? The only downside is the small ink tanks. It seems like every time I print 1 of the 8 is getting low or needs replacement Still in all I love it and I've had for over a year by now with nothing but good prints from it.

Best,
Jay

Yeah, I've been reading tons of reviews latley on printing technologies and inks technologies. Epson and HP certainly had the market for sometime, but apparently a few years ago Canon dumped a huge amount of money in research and development. The result is a great product for less money than Epson and HP. Apparently from what I have read the Epson is still better in some regards as far as certain colors, but it's so difficult to tell the difference it's very neglegable. Also the Canon's have the Photo Black in the print head essemble which is a huge advantage over the Epson's. Changing the black cartiges is a pain in the butt and takes time/ wastes inc. All I know is my printer sits sometimes for a few weeks and isn't used at all. The reason I went with the Canon was because it doesn't clog, and mine has vever clogged.

I'm hoping to get a large format printer at some point, but right now I'm just tapped The Canon is significantly cheaper than both the HP and Epson equivelent. Although the HP has some advanced feature's the Canon does not have, the print comparisions are supposidly indestiguishable We shall see!

Best,
Jay
