At $4000 USD for the ASK-4000 it is more than I can justify at this time. That much money would buy me a 5D body and some glass.
Or a bigger Epson printer. : Or? Probably AND the R1800 printer. ![]() |

A bit too pricy for me too, but I guess if you're after that dye sub quality and you're selling prints then it should pay for itself. I was tempted last year to get one the Olympus dye-subs (P-400 & P-440) that were being offloaded for next to nothing. Print quality is supposed to be spectacular, but I was put off with the potential issues of supplies in the future as you need special paper and the Oly ribbons - which may not be around for long if they're dumping stock. At least with dye-sub you know exactly what your running costs are, which for the P-440 were around $90 for 50 A4 prints.

Paul,
I too looked at the Oly units and was also put off by a supply issue question. There is also a Kodak unit that I looked at and liked. It was nice because the paper and ink/dye-sub material was sold as a unit. You knew exactly how many prints you would get from a unit. I think it might have been the Kodak 1400 Digital Photo Printer that seems to be priced around $250 now, down from the original $500 USD. |
