Default R800 - New Printer

Not new new of course. My budget, as a hobbyist, does not allow me always to get the latest and greatest. Ritz had 3 left in stock and I grabbed one and am working to get my color management back in to line. I have re-calibrated the monitor, downloaded profiles and new driver. The paper is Epson's premium paper at this time.

In the printer I turned off color management and am letting PS CS manage the output. On Saturday I downloaded the trial of QImage and will try it to see if it helps any.

Anything else I need to look for.

Thanks,

QImage can use both a monitor and printer profile, so make sure you have them set a certain way, make sure you understand what they are, and if you change, make sure your changes are not over ridden. If you tweak colors on the print, make sure you save them to the printer profile, or make another one.

Other than that, I think you have it.

Hi Mr. Pickles,

Yes, QImage has the new monitor profile in the correct location and the printer profile is set to the Epson profile for the premium glossy paper.

I am making a post in http://www.photocamel.com/index.php?topic=3956.new#new with a view of the offending image.

Thanks,

I purchased the R800 because I was tired trying to come up with 6 prints to send to WHCC (8x10 @ $2 ea) to meet their minimum order. MPIX is okay but they charge shipping so while I can lower the per-print cost the shipping charge eats up the savings.

The local shop here, which good, charges a lot for an 8x10 print. Given that I no longer have a CostCo I can visit I will need to start printing my normal stuff at home. Pigmented inks give me better longivity over dye based inks. I belong to a B&W group here and since moving to Knoxville I've printed more for myself than i did in the previous 3 or 4 years.

I am hoping someone with an R800 will pipe in and let me know if I have a hole in my process.

Thanks Mr. Pickles.

Maybe this is a good read?

The bits from Dec and Aug 2004 might be of interest?

Great minds think alike. Found and read it last night. Tried the different things but I may give it another read.

The Epson rep is at CompUSA today so I can go talk with him.

Thanks,

Would you be willing to sell the gray plastic tray that came with your printer that is used to print on CDs?

Jerry,

Why? Even if I don't use it, selling it would devalue the R800 should I decide to sell it at some date. Until the warranty period expires I shouldn't anyway.

Sorry, the answer would be "no".

Take care,

Have you contacted Epson? This is likely a replaceable part that is available for purchase.

Yes, I have written to EPSON. No response so far.
