30" x 20" with mpix.com the image was shot with D1X at 6mp in high .jpg format. It turned out great! You can really push the size limits of files now with all the pro printing equipment.

30x30 from pro lab. Camera resolution really matters with these large prints.

I sell a lot of 16x24's with D70 RAW files, but I have gone up to 30" with an image from a D1x.* At 6-8 MP, your file needs to be really, really clean and sharp to go much over 17".

Remember that the success of large prints also depends upon final viewing distance.

In my opinion, the commercial printers RIP tends to a much better job of up-rezing than any software I've tried - including all of the "stair step" methods. Their interpolation routines are very effective.

80x120cm (about 32x48") from 10D RAW uprezzed using S-spline Pro (I think it has a new name now).
These prints don't stand scrutiny with a loupe, but from any reasonable viewing distance they look great.

30 x 40 thru a pro lab and the photo was shot with the Canon 20D. The photo now hangs in my studio.

I don't think there'd be a limit, *if* the final product is viewed from an appropriate distance, i.e. same order of magnitude as the diagonal of the print. The human eye simply can't resolve more than so much. It's essentially a digital device -- the rods and cones are analagous to pixel sites.
