Hello, Can someone give me some advice about which printer you would choose. A Canon model P9000 or an Epson R1800?
Well? __________________

me too ![]() ...and again, just FWIW, The Luminous Landscape did a review of the 'one size larger' (17") Canon ImageProGRAPH5000 - capable of printing in 16 bits mode - *and* the new inks, which are the same as used in the PixmaPro 9500 (pigment ink called Lucia = light in Latin )...just for your information... Kindest regards! Max@Home |

It would help to compare printers that use the same ink. Dye based inks tend to fade faster and unless one uses special paper they could run when wet.
Recently I purchased an Epson R800 having moved on from a Canon S530D. The Canon is a good printer and ink can be found at many locations such as CompUSA. So don't let ink availability be a distraction/concern. Look at both and get the one that fits your needs and budget. Take care, |

I have been using the i9900 for about a year and a half now. Mostly for 8x10's and to my eye, it's output is simply beautiful. Printing is fast and the color output is wonderful. To date, color fading has not been an issue. The biggest problem with this printer is the small ink cartridges which don't last near enough. I am in the process of trying some different ink to reduce ink costs. The cartridges are about 12.00 ea. Short of that I have to give this printer great marks.

I have an old Epson R800, and mostly utilze color labs. However, If I were in the market I would probably go with a Canon printer that utilizes pigment inks.

We currently do soft proofs w/the i9900...this fall I hope to get the ipf8000...the 330 ml inks are just under $2k, the 770 ml inks are around $3200...my purpose in getting a 44" machine is to be able to do our own 40x60's for our own advertising...in the scheme of things there are relatively few that will be able to hang w/that...and that is what I want to show...some prints will be from scanned 4x5 the others hopefully from the 1Ds2...will run test's of course but I've seen some nice work at those sizes...so I intend to shove it down the competitors throats in terms of size, quality and offerings...isn't domination a beautiful thing!

I've had my Canon i9950 (i9900 in the USA) since the launch and it has been fantastic. I would strongly advise Canon inks only though since I had a lot of problems with alternate sources but since changing back have had only good prints. I strongly recommend it. perhaps one day I'll upgrade to the Pixma 9500 but for the moment I am very happy with what I've got. Incidentally, I find the Moab matte paper just fabulous.
