Default Canon or Epson ??????

Hello, Can someone give me some advice about which printer you would choose. A Canon model P9000 or an Epson R1800?

Well?

I love canon products, but the inks are getting harder and harder to find, Walmart & Target no longer carey them

I use the R1800..

When I was comparing before the purchase, I didn't get the Canon since it didn't use pigment ink. Pigment inks do not fade in time, and it's important to me that prints to change color after a few years.

me too

...and again, just FWIW, The Luminous Landscape did a review of the 'one size larger' (17") Canon ImageProGRAPH5000 - capable of printing in 16 bits mode - *and* the new inks, which are the same as used in the PixmaPro 9500 (pigment ink called Lucia = light in Latin )

...just for your information...

Kindest regards!

iPF5000 sounds incredible! ... and luminous-landscape.com seems to always do great reviews for people like me who don't like reading! After that review the 4800 is not of interest ....

It would help to compare printers that use the same ink. Dye based inks tend to fade faster and unless one uses special paper they could run when wet.

Recently I purchased an Epson R800 having moved on from a Canon S530D. The Canon is a good printer and ink can be found at many locations such as CompUSA. So don't let ink availability be a distraction/concern.

Look at both and get the one that fits your needs and budget.

Take care,

I have a canon 6000d & hate the pictures it puts out. It also sucks ink like it's free. I regret getting it, though it does make ok 4X6's. I only use it to print out documents now & send pics to mpix for enlargments.

I have a Canon i9900. It is a great printer -very fast. If I had it do over again, I'd probably go after an Epson. Seems everyone supports Epson with inks, papers etc.

I do get great prints from the Canon though -

I have been using the i9900 for about a year and a half now. Mostly for 8x10's and to my eye, it's output is simply beautiful. Printing is fast and the color output is wonderful. To date, color fading has not been an issue. The biggest problem with this printer is the small ink cartridges which don't last near enough. I am in the process of trying some different ink to reduce ink costs. The cartridges are about 12.00 ea. Short of that I have to give this printer great marks.

I just ordered a refurbished R1800 from Epson for $299. I also got free shipping. At that price, I couldn't pass it up.

I have an old Epson R800, and mostly utilze color labs. However, If I were in the market I would probably go with a Canon printer that utilizes pigment inks.
