I've been using a combination of R1800 and R800 printers for a number of years. I noticed recently (not to say it's been this way all along) that printing a 5X7 borderless print part of the image missing around the edge. On the PS canvas and in the print dialog there was more room around the outer perimeter of the image. So, if I turn the borderless "off" the entire area prints, even with the border around the edge. At this past show, I printed an 8X10 and the crop crowded an element (the standard of a horse jump) onto the edge, in the borderless print a part of it was cut off.
For the life of me, I don't remember the printer (R1800) behaving this way. Have I been that unobservant in the past, or has something changed one me or do I just need to reinstall the driver? TIA Steve __________________

Check your image dimension in pixels as well as the resolution you have specified. Some printer drivers have an option (on by default) to upsize the image by a few % to guarantee that there is no white edge or border on a borderless print and also to take into account that the paper is never perfectly aligned in the printer. Upsizing can introduce softness in the output. I never use borderless any more but print two 5 x 7 on an 8 x 10 sheet and use my Fiskars paper cutter to trim them.

Maybe I'll just crop these loose so we don't risk cutting off things near the edge of the print. Or I'll start printing with a border. |

Wonder of all wonders, I found the answer and that I've been mighty unobservant for a long time.
By design the printer slightly enlarges the image to compensate for it's own physical limitations and a portion of the image is sprayed onto the over-spray sponge. Thus when the same cropped image is printed with the border the whole image shows up even with the border and part is missing without it. Mystery solved, but not easily. |

I've got a Canon s9000 and have just stated doing borderless prints (all sizes A4/A3/A3+) - if you do a lot of this sort of printing (question) where does all the ink go to that 'overshoots' the sides of the paper ? - i know it's not a lot but it must accumulate and present some sort of 'long term' problem....

on Epson 2200 it states you should not do border-less prints because the ink after a period of time ink will get wheels gummed up and cause ink stains on the back of the prints
