I have seen a couple of articles on a display type called a tryptych. I can't figure out whether these are made from one image that is cut into three pieces, or three images taken very close beside each other. Has anyone done any of these and how did you do it? Any insight or references that anyone would care to share is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

In the example below I used several images to create the pano then broke it into three segments. I have seen but not created triptych using three images side by side which could stand individually on their own.

You can also do them vertically

Mike, thanks for the information and the images - they look great. Never even thought of a vertical one, but why not.
Let me see if I understand about the first one - you made a pano using a number of images and then broke it into three parts using Photoshop(?). Did you print the results on three different sheets of paper and then mount them in a single, divided matte and then a frame, or did you use a "template" with three parts in it and printed the whole thing on one sheet of paper and then matted and framed it? I would break the image up and print 3 individual images. Search for Triptych Prints or similar and you should find a number of internet print shops that will do it, or you can just get 3 print made. I think they look great as canvas prints.
I actually broke the image up using Paint Shop Pro but it's the same thing either way. |
