Portfolio - how to print?

How do you all produce a portfolio? A printed one I mean?

I mean things like:

- What size prints?
- Margin or no margin?
- Cropped (hope not!) or 3:2 aspect ratio?
- Glossy or matt?
- Mounted into what, and how?
- How many prints?
- Comments (how?), or just the prints?

Any feedback gratefully acknowledged.

I've never done one but there's a good link here that goes into the 'do's and don'ts' of creating a portfolio. Hopefully some other camels will offer their own insight into this.

Re: Portfolio - how to print?

For a real portfolio, the advice in the link Paul provided will serve you well. For simple reference material of my work, I have had a few books printed. One has an assortment of all images, another has event and photojournalism, another is strictly live music performance. These work well for my bread and butter work. I carry them around with me, and when anyone asks about my work, I can hand them a book. I had the books printed through shutterfly for about $45 per book. I have used Asuka Books for clients, and these are really beautiful, but price is way to prohibitive for my purposes.

Go to MyPublisher, and get a book made with your good shots in it. Get more than one book if you do different things, like landscapes and weddings...
