Hey All,
I did a pregnancy shoot for a couple. This is one of the shots i took. How can i make it better? ![]() The father was done out of focus for a reason. But the photo doesn't wow me. __________________

He isn't out of focus enough and the photo he is holding is not very clear. Too much glare on the photo. Too much noise on the dude. To get the effect you are describing you should have dropped your aperture down to f4.5 and had him extend his arm out as far as he could. Looks like you had it at f6.3? The ISO is way too high for that camera IMO especially if you had a flash. Should have adjusted the flash power rather than the ISO.

Tx Kewk,
I'm not very familiar with all the camera terms and wouldn't be able to tell you at this stage what the f? was. I know it is one of the first things i should know but I need to read more about it. This was the clearest sonar photo we had. Those pictures are usually not very clear. Unfortunatly my flash was a bit to harsh on the photo and that makes it worse. I will try this again with the tips you have given. |

Here is a super quick edit of what you might have envisioned? I didn't even try to fix the glare on the photo... think it would take more time than I want to spend on it. I moved him to the right a bit to adhere to the rule of thirds as well.

Yeah, it's just something to think about. My edits were all in photoshop and if you end up reshooting you can do everything I did and what you want while shooting. Just remember to drop aperture to the lowest setting and have him extend his arm out as far as possible. Then just play with the distance to get the affect you want. Also remember the rule of thirds as it will be a huge part of this photo IMO.

If it was me, I would go with a full black and white conversion here

Do you mind if I play with editing it?

I think some better lighting on the dad, like a hair light, would make a huge difference. Maybe bouncing a flash to prevent the glare on the ultrasound pic would help. I like the idea, though.

Thanks here's my color play with it:
I don't know him personally so it may be a tinge to green.. but it seemed way to red to me in the original: |

Well I think your concept is awesome. You have received some great advice already so nothing more for me to add.

I had some free time so went back in and did some editing...
In this one I cleaned up the glare on the photo and tried to even out the skin tone a bit as well as clean up the noise. ![]() This is the same but I added some bokeh to it... ![]() and this one has less bokeh ![]() This one I think is a more accurate bokeh ![]() __________________
