Default What to Do?

I am planning my first attempt at head shots using the 5D with the 85 1.8 on it and depending upon light would like to shot with an aperture of 4.0. Is that a good starting point? If so, what would be a good working distance from the subject. I don't want to have to crop a lot except to make an 8x10 but still have a good crisp photo. It will be taken outside with natural light and reflector. I might try flash depending upon the weather. Any tips would be appreciated.

for distance: just try some distances with a friend or neighbor.
Check the DoF you want with DoFmaster, that gives you the aperture, next choose the ISO (or adapt lightning) so that the shuttertime > 1/85.
