Hauled my eldest son in to the studio and forced him to sit for a lighting test. This is about the only way I can get him in front of the camera any more!

Am not knowledgeable enough about lighting to critique but, I like your results.

I am not sure what you are testing. But the sharpness of the image and the sculpting of the left jaw are nice. Makes a fat man jealous and wishing that maybe he didn't eat that second brownie. Or even the first.

You have a good looking son, with a nice on-camera presence; it's too bad he doesn't like to pose for you. I'm not qualified to comment on the lighting except that I like it, and I like the shot.

Stacey,
Great looking young man there!!! It looks a bit flat and it needed a hair light. ![]() His arms are quite prominant in this shot. Lets think on this a moment,. Raising the camera up a little higher would have minimized his arms, but might have "feminized" the pose more than it already is (See below.) Having him in a long sleeved shirt would have solved the bare arm problem except then we would have an aweful lot of blackness at the bottom of the image. I believe lowering his knee is the answer. That way less arm would show and more of his chest would be revealed giving the image more balance. Lastly his hear is tipped to the feminine shoulder! ![]() Benji |

I always hate commenting after Benji because he is so knowledgable and thorough. So I'll just say I like it, you have a good lookin' son, and thanks for sharing.

I can't get my son in front of the camera now at 12 years old. I can't imagine trying when he's older. You're lucky ![]() |

Nice result. A single light with barn doors? Just wondered, as I took a few of my eldest son that way recently and rather liked the pix. In fact, I may even post a shot from that shoot. Thanks for the inspiration.....

I can see where a hair light would be useful, but I'm confused on the flat comment. I see shadows from his nose and along his cheek, so in what way is this flat? Not challenging your comment, I'm just trying to see what you see.

OK not flat, just VERY broad loop lighting. ![]() Benji __________________
