Any suggestions for the lighting? I am in Kelly's Photography class and he said this is the place to go for feedback!

For me - the bottom one - maybe - needs the horuzon straightened also maybe a 1/2 power flash or reflector to touch up the shadows on the person. The flash has to be considered either the main light or fill light as to its placement here.

I don't think that horizon can be straightened; not without tipping the child on his face. It isn't crooked because of camera tilt, it is running at a diagonal because it comes from behind the photographer on the left and travels out of the frame in front of the photographer on the right. Does look kind of wacky though.

Kasha, I am liking the lighting on the first one. I think you did a good job of balancing the exposure from the foreground to the background. Compositionally you wouldn't want to cut off the feet.
The second one is a backlit situation. You either have to sacrifice the background for the foreground or add flash. |

Wow, that beach throws back great light on his face in #1! LOVE that.
I like the weird angle in #2 and that long curvy thing over to the right looks like a scary snaky sea monster! Great shot! __________________
