Nice image Rense the season is appropriate to the subject of a man in later life.

A very nice image indeed. I like the colors, the tone, the composition. The eye is immediately drawn to the puppy, which leads to many interpretations. One thing I would change is the bright person at the end of the walkway. A bit distracting to my eye. If the person were cloned out, it would have a stronger impact on me.

It's just exactly perfect. Without the little dog it would be sad and lonely; as it is, there is companionship and it's peaceful.

I like it very much. I think possibly a different angle might make it a bit stronger. If the path led back at an angle, not straight back or centered as much. Probably would be strong in b&w as well...though then the Fall leaves would not add their warmth or depth to the signifigance of this time of life.

I think this is a great shot!
I have to admit that I thought that I'd like to clone out that person at the end of the path also, (but maybe also because I don't believe in the whole "circle of Samsara" .)My other thought was that the light corners/sky are a slight distraction and maybe just cropping in closer could remove that. You definitely lose the feeling of vastness though, so maybe I'd just leave it the way it is. But see what you think of this crop. |

I like the shot too. However, I agree that the blown out sky and background is distracting. Instead of a crop; would a vignette work better?

I like, and like GSK's suggestion too... this is a fun photo. I like one's like this where the shot is already really good, but you can do many things with it. I don't know that any of these are better, I think they all are good, as is the first one. Again, Rense, thanks for providing a wonderful photo, I always like to try and work with your stuff. It's like I get a lesson from you all the time....lol.... I think I'm better at the post-processing than the actual photography...sigh.... these are just me diddling with your wonderful work...now I did do some color masking, hues were tampered with too. What I liked about this was the dichotomy of the greens on the right, versus the withered on the left, then you have the opposite, the old man on the right with his little pooch on the left... yes, I probably stared at this too long..lol..

Hi, Rense. You've got a great capture there.
If I were to change anything, I think it would be a more powerful shot bringing in the crop and changing it to portrait rather than landscape. The man, the dog, and the path is what the photo is all about. The rest is just filler. Nice shot.... ![]() |

Reflected on all of the thoughful suggestions made by folks I respect. Then just brought the picture up full screen and looked for a bit. I think you may have got it right the first time. The path, the perspective, the area around each person's journey that the path does not lead to. Yep, its good.
