I really like the shot, and like to think I would have caught the symbolism without you telling me (but I'm probably kidding myself - I don't pick up on stuff like that). I think the bright areas on camera left would be better toned down to match the right side, but that is a nit against an otherwise wonderful image.

nope to the left and the end of the wood there is white light symbolizing the death-passing. The righthand side is darker and symbolizes life with all its turmoil, that is about to end.
