I tried an experiment to see how well I could use both - the brightness range and canvas measurements for an image of mine.
This one is based loosely on JOHANNES VERMEER'S - THE LACEMAKER. When I sit back about 12 feet - the noise and problems are reduced well enough for me - to hold my art reproduction book - with the painting up - in front of the screen - and in the same light level - so I can compare the skin tones on the screen - to those in the book reproduction. Book reproduction and screen tones match fairly close - especially on the nose area. __________________

While I am familiar with the artist, I am not familiar with the particular painting you viewed. However, these images likely do resemble his work. You did a nice job with the image. Cheers, Bill P.

My thanks for the kind words, Bill. I am not sure if this is one of VERMEER'S well known images, but it in is his list of images.
Here is a VERMEER LINK - click on the DATES IN THE UPPER LEFT and check each list. One of them should have THE LACEMAKER. Essential Vermeer This my one of most fav sites for inspiration at times. |

Norm I looked at the Vermeer painting. I am reasonably familiar with the Old Master painters, but I had never seen that one. I do think you were able to capture the same tonality as the painting and it is very moody, but not in quite the same way as the painting.
My one nit is that it looks a little soft, but I know you prefer softer images where I tend to oversharpen sometimes. No right or wrong here, just a difference of preference. |

My thanks for the kind words and being kind to me . not nit picking everyting. The painting is slightly brighter than my image, but I was still able to keep my image in check. We like this one very much for its moody effect. Working slow on this image, LETTING IT SPEAK TO ME AFTER I WORKED EVERY LITTLE BIT OF WORK UNTIL FINISHED, I was able to gain a good understanding of the FEELING OF WHAT MY IMAGE GAVE ME and the ARTISTIC ABILITY of the PAINTING ARTIST much better. You are right - I tend to error on the side of unsharpen than to over do the sharpening. __________________
