This is one that the mom really liked - would you critique my edit, please? I did use the liquify tool just a bit, on her neck, plus some other stuff...

The one on the top is the initially edited one, the bottom is the final.

And after that, another one that mom wanted, but in color.

Love the color one as well - especially the outline around the head.

My question is - did you try a SQUARE or NEAR SQUARE shape cropped image?
and second - did you try to color correct for the pale blue tint on the skin tone of the face?

These are just ideas - not criticisims as such.

You know, I did color correct for the blue tone, but maybe I didn't take it far enough. I'll work on that again. Thanks for pointing it out!

I haven't tried a square crop - are you talking about for the color one? I think it would look nice.

Nice work. I hope the square format suggestion was for the B&W. Its a nice image of her but seems like a lot of leading edge background. Looks like something needs to be there, like some text or another person. How do you think it would look without it?

First thing, I do see blue in the skin as well on my old Monitor. The B&W I might think it needs to be cropped a bit more maybe the square format would be good but a little bit tighter. I think there is too much wasted space around her. The color shot is much better for the Crop.

Now, thats all for the critism. The pose, the expression and everything else is wonderful like usual. I have to comment on both her eyes and those dimples. They captivate me, I dont think my wife would allow it but I want to talk to her Sorry, you would be reading my Obits if I did.

Maybe the background is really suited for color versions. It's a pinkish wall, with some white and gray mixed in there, and her top was black, then of course her hair and skin color - in b/w, that may be where it loses interest from the wall - no contrasting colors.

What do you think of these crops, which one is best?

OK I like 2 over 1, but then you threw 3 at us. I am used to the normal perspective of seeing things in the size ratio. This crop of 3 to me is fantastic and I am always used to seeing things in the old wet film ways. I do like the square format, but I am not used it yet.

Is the square format just for the web or can it be printed and still look as good? Even though paper isn't sold in the square format I would think that its really a waste of paper isnt it??

I had one printed of my daughter once in a square format. It's really nice but frames are hard to purchase for those, and I think they'd have to be either searched for or custom made.

Her mom is extremely traditional and I suspect will like something like #3 the best. They purchased the CD package, which includes the digital file and they can crop as they like best. It'll be interesting to see how they go with it.

I really like #3 it has balance and don't be offended by the term, her head size fits the crop better. Very much appealing to the eye and holds the gaze for me, as it should. Kudos and Have a bite of Special K

These are really nice, Sis! She definitely has beautiful eyes. Of the B&W I like the first post (final edit) in the wide format with the extra space; it allows me to visualize the interesting BG and doesn't bother me. And of the cropped images, I like the one in traditional portrait instead of the square - and I like square crop. Her face has a square shape and to me the portrait crop seems to make it more elongated. I probably make no sense here but just my thought!
They are obviously very happy with the result and that's what counts.
