Some recent threads in here made me wonder...who does their own retouching?
I'm curious who does their own retouching and who farms it out? If you do your own how much do you do? Do you charge extra? If so for what? What types of photography do you offer retouching on and what don't you? For example, seniors, nursery schools, proms etc... Interested to hear your replies! Blessings, Lori PS I'll be gone tonight (leave in a few minutes.) I'll let you know how the print comp goes! __________________

i do my own. all proofs will be retouched, and i don't penalize anyone for blemishes. if there is something like scars or anything, i will discuss the amount of retouching with the subject. i also do softening or "glamourizing" in post process at no extra charge. like benji said, if its got my name on it, its lookin' as good as it can. i consider it professional to give my client a finished product!

I do my own - so far, it's been so basic that I haven't charged for it - like blemishes, a stray hair or two, circles under the eyes.
I have done head swaps and eye swaps - not many, but if they were a frequent thing, I'd charge for them. Up to now, I've just used them as learning experiences. But then again, I just have a small part-time business...still learning a lot, too. Sis |

Hasn't it gotten tougher, in the digital age, to charge people for retouching? The perception seems to be that retouching is easy--it's not like in the days of the film photography studios. Then, everyone seemed to know that making someone look younger, thinner, etc., involved doing something that your average person could never do.
