Default Back to the future, portrait style

My new 35mm f/2 prime has the same FOV as the 50mm lens that came standard with my Minolta SRT101 in 1973. Back then zoom lenses were rare, so we had to use our imaginations to find flattering perspectives, and our feet to zoom. To make the recreation complete, I've reverted to shooting in b&w mode with my d200. Here's a few samples.

Thanks, Jared. Yes, the d200 has a b&w mode. My intention was to re-create the feeling of a rangefinder camera by using the d200 in b&w mode with a 35mm prime lens.

Nice shots Frank. I like the pose in nbr 1. I'm trying to work out the angle. Were you crouched and shooting slightly upwards?

Isn't it nice that sometimes a B&W image tells more of a story than a color one does?

Hi, Paul! The child was seated on a 5 foot tall stack of exercise mats at the gym.* I try to avoid shooting down at kids, because that's the way they're usually seen by adults.* That makes shooting upwards inherently more interesting.* Here's another example.* I had to lie on the floor (in a restaurant :-/ ) to get this perspective.

I agree with you there Mr. Pickles. I have always like candid people photos in B/W... Just adds so much more to them and like you say, it tells more of a story than color.

In some odd way, to eliminate is to broaden the mind.

Kind of like sitting on a park bench, with your eyes closed. Just listening to the birds and the trees, and so forth. You get to "see" the real image in your mind, yet we can all "see" something different.

Very similar to B&W's, to me. Maybe I'm just odd that way

Great series. B&W seems to make them more dramatic.
