Default Portrait lens

I'm sure this has been talked about to a great extent in other threads, but...

If you had to choose one lens that you would use for indoor studio shoots what would it be?

and If you had to choose one lens (if different) that you would use for outdoor portrait shoots, what would it be?

I currently use a Canon 70-200L 2.8 for most of my outdoor stuff and inside I use the old nifty fifty or my Sigma 17-70..

Thanks..jeff

Of people? I like my 100mm for heads, and 50mm for torsos. I'm thinking 85 will be recommended a lot, so will the 135. It really comes down to the desired FOV and your working room. I wouldn't go less than a 35mm, however. In other words, I can't limit it to one lens.

Jeff I like the 24-70 for studio, I shoot lots of babies and the zoom helps when your laying on the floor and need to zoom in or out to try to catch something cute. Outside I like the 70-200 and 85 1.8 only because I cant justify the 1.2 version.

I really like my 17-70...Everything usually comes out very sharp, plus it gives some flexibility...

105mm f2.8 Nikon for full frame digital on a Kodak SLRN, and 110mm f4 or 250mm f4 Mamiya for digital MF on Mamiya RZ II.

I always use a camera stand in the studio.

I am sure your right but it will have to be big. I always seem to get ether wild children or sound asleep ones, not much in between. I was shooting a 1 year old and before mom could get out of the frame the little one was in the next room .

There are folding drum risers available that are only 12-18" high, which might work.
