This is my 19 month old daughter Shelby
She moves so quick it's hard to get a good shot. I quite like this one though - what do you think? __________________

Darling little girl! She has adorable eyes! I would do a little PS work to bring the red down in her cheeks and give the skin just a touch of smoothing.

Agreed, really cute, but this does have a pretty good blue cast going on.

What a baby doll! They are hard to shoot after they get to walking/running.

Don't be shy Jimmyz, take a bit more out. The whites of her eyes and hair on the right still have a bit of a blue cast to it.
Gosh, she is a cutie though! |

Ok, here ya go:
![]() The blue cast is simply caused by the white balance being off. If you used auto WB it may be thrown off by the light temp of 2 different light sources (interior and window light), or you may have had it in a different "picture mode" (for landscapes or portraits). No matter- that's why God invented Photoshop- to fix things like this. You can get rid of blue casts by adding a warming (orange) filter. While I was messing with this one I sharpened it a hair more, backed off on the saturation just a tad, and did just a smidgen of skin smoothing. Hope you don't mind. |

Outside pic huh? Ok. If you're going to try and set the WB yourself you need to keep a white card handy. Page 86 of your manual tells you how to set the Custom White Balance. You can also do WB bracketing (page 89) and pick the best one.
I appreciate your dedication to trying to set everything yourself! Hang in there. Personally I've tried, but I've come to realize the camera is a whole lot smarter and quicker than this ole guy and I've ended up being a auto WB/focus, P-mode guy for most of my shots. (sigh). |

Rebeccah, Goofup is right about setting the custom white balance, I do it in tricky lighting situations but in single light source photos I usually try to use auto and shoot raw so I can tweak it later if I need to.
