Default Online photography Schools/classes

Having had a fairly bad shoot and feeling pretty shaken up by it I was wondering if there are any shcools/classes that anyone reccomends or would tell me to steer clear of

Liz

Liz, dont feel bad.

I don't know if online courses for photography work. Are there no photographers near to your place? I think a weekend with an experienced photographer and you learn more than in many hours spent on books and online courses. I was on a workshop with Frank Doorhof and learned so much in some hours.

The other thing is to keep posting here and you will learn a lot as well.

Cheers, Felix

I'm sorry to read your frustrations. What exactly do you think the problem was? I'd nail that down and move forward from there. If it's lighting or poses, gather some books from the library.

If it was personality or client expectations related, then I'd just call that experience a lesson and move on.

Liz, sorry about your bad expereince.

You could start by doing something locally. One of which is to get involved in a local photography club. Many time these have local professional shooters that are more then willing to offer advise based on experience. Another course is to contact the base photo department and see if anyone is working on something on their own away from anything military santioned and see if they would like an assistant. All bases have photographers. Some have some great ones.

Thank you for the input...I will follow up on the ideas. As far as the New York School, I have the information, and have for some time. I've wondered if it was worth the money. That is quite alot of money to shell out. Do the advisors REALLY advise you? Do you get much feed back I mean compared to here let say? What is it they do when you send them your photographs? What is it truly like

AJW390 had a good post about the "learning" above. I'd imagine you could still post images you sent them on here too.

We can pick them apart like normal people. They can pick them apart like "educated" people

I think what you want to learn, is to understand certain governing conditions, grasp the techniques, and learn how to apply them. If you understand what they say about it, then you got it. An image as proof is just a confirmation that you indeed learned what they said.

I looked into that place because our local community college doesn't offer photography. My husband gave me his books from when he took it in school, but it's hard to "self educate" *constructively*.

Regarding the cost... they just mailed me a 50% off certificate as they "haven't heard back" from me. I say hold out until their offers entice you enough.

How much is actually the cost for a professional course?

If you pay in monthly payments it's $998, but if you pay in full upfront it's $948. And it appears all the discounts are applicable for those willing to pay in full upfront.

The "freebies" are there too. Such as free monopod, camera bag, National Geographic Fieldguide (says for limited time only) and Pro Camera Care Kit including tornado blower and microfiber cleaning cloth.

I have been considering NYIP for sometime myself. I have heard it is very good. One thing I wonder about is this; they name their instructors as being tops in their field, but when I Googled their names all I got were references to the school. Why not to any of their work

What the certificate worth? Is it actually being issues anyway or does one have to pass some kind of test and how would that be possible online? They mailed me the catalog but could n ot find that info.
