Jay...here is what I like about this image.
1. You got a nice smile out of him and really captured part of his personality. 2. Sure the background is cluttered...but it was a picnic! What you did was create a ver nice image by throwing the background out of focus. 3. Good pose. You have him in the 1 - 2 - 2 pose mentioned in Benji's tutorial. 4. The lighting is gradiated and short. It is not flat. You kept your eye on the light. YOu used the available soft light to create some very nice, subtle shadows and highlights. 5. You are making me realize I am not using my 50mm enough. Now, I think he appears just a little low in the frame. One of the tutorials I watched said to keep the eyes intersecting with the upper third line when thinking rule of thirds. |

Thanks for the comments Kelly
I love the 50mm!! So sharp and the shallow DOF it offers is growing on me every time I use it ![]() I see what your saying about the eyes being low in the frame and that makes sense The lighting where he was sitting was pretty good which inspired me to take the shot ![]() Thanks again for the valuable feedback!! So now just finish the job. Go into Photoshop and tone down those high lights, punch up his skin tone and then clone a few plants over the top of some of the cars. Add a vignette and you will have a lovely portrait.
