Megan - Take Two

Here are more images of Megan, the beautiful, understanding, patient, model that is helping me get the hang of my lights. She said she would also like C&C on her posing. Appreciate any helpful comments on the lighting as well.

Russ I want to commend you for all the work you are putting into your photography right now, it is inspirational to us. In the 1st @ f2.8 I can see that her eye, actually the entire left side of her face, is softer than camera right. It seemsto resolve a bit when you went to f4 but still a tad different. For the lighting I like the natural tones in the 1st two where you had more ambient light helping you out. In the 3rd shot the break in the clouds above her head immediately draws my eye away from her. The pose in the first gives her a slimmer appearance as opposed to the pose in # 3 with her shoulders flat to the camera. I think the last shot would have been enhanced if she would have straightened her shoulders and put a bit of an arch in her back. All that said she is a very pretty young lady and has a beautiful smile. She certainly is to be commended for helping you out. The colors she wore complimented her complexion and hair color. Gosh I am rambling, nice work and I eagerly await more

Thank you very much for the comments. I refer back to these and reread them so that it eventually "hopefully" will stick in my head. You are not the first to comment in the break in the clouds. Wondering if I were to burn it a bit if that would help. Maybe later. I could see the softness in the first image myself. It's one of my favorites though. Not sure if I could fix that with selective sharpening. I like to try to get it right in the camera so that I don't have to work too much more later.

Megan sure is a pretty girl!!!! My favorite is the first one. I like the limited depth of field and the sparkle in her eyes. I can't say that I'm too crazy about two or three. Two makes her look bigger than I'm guessing she is. And three just kind of looks flat to me and as someone else mentioned the clouds parting are somewhat distracting. Four is a winner for sure. All in all a great series. Hope we can see more of her. As I said above, Megan sure is a pretty girl!!

your work is getting better. How do you think you did? I would like to see you critique your own. How do you think you could've made these better?

My fave is also the 1st but would like to have seen her hair pulled back off her face . I like the rest but they seem a little to square to the camera maybe. [the face position]
Beautiful lady hope I get a chance to take some of her one day .

1. I've taken many landscapes and you would think that it would be second nature for me to get the horizon straight. That is on e of the first things I notice as I have shot plenty of them. I guess I get wrapped up in the lights and exposure.

2. I need to learn poses better to best show off the subject. I have been looking around here and other places as well as magazines to get a better idea. I've noticed that some magazines show what normally shouldn't be done.

3. I also need to learn more head positions and should bring a few props.

4. I need to get off f/2.8 and f/4 when there is plenty of light. the depth of field seems too narrow for portraits.
