Hi everyone, I haven't really posted much, but more of a lurker. I've been using my D50 more over the past few months with an umbrella and 2 SB-800s. I'm new at photography and love the quality of photos I have been getting lately. Anytime I get a photo opportunity, I always take it.
Anyways, back to the reason why I posted. I took these shots of my girlfriend and I a few days back and wanted to hear what you think. Thanks! ![]() __________________

These are wonderful. They show good times that you'll cherish.
#1 and #3 stand out. #4 also nice. On a timer? |

I like the third shot a lot. In general I would add more contrast to your b&w's

More like this?
I'm just always afraid of making it 'too contrasty' and getting that harsh look. I guess there's a balance, but having 'too' much gray in a photo makes it boring and plain... the subject doesn't really jump off the paper. Thanks! |

Great display of emotion in these and yes, the edit you did really makes a positive difference to my eyes. My only knit is that the area below her nose is brighter, perhaps intentional, so you might want to play around with levels or curves to balance that a bit more. SFTM or someone with more portrait experience could better comment on that. Good job!

then you might like the 'LocalContrastEnhancement' trick, using USM at setting 20/50/0 and 'steer' the effect with the bottom '0' slider, where 0 = max effect. You can make very subtle contrast changes with that, both in B&W and in colour ![]() And thanks for sharing the lovely series, 3 and 4 and 5 (I tight headshots) are my favourites.Kindest regards, and keep posting!
