Critique of The Marshall. Excellent white balance. Lighting is good. Cowboy hats are a nightmare to get light into the eyes of the subject as they block most of it, good job.
I would like to see some "action" in his right hand. To me it appears that his left hand is positioned as if he was getting ready to hold the holster down in order to draw his six gun with the other hand but his right hand is just hanging there. I wish he were looking at us instead of beyond us. The Cowgirl. Again nice job getting light under that hat and into her eyes although the image is kinda flat lit. Her wrist is straight, it should be bent. I like the rope prop but I feel the chair is out of place in the field. An old rugged split rail fence would have been the perfect prop for her to lean against with the rope draped across it or something, but I'm guessing one was not available. Benji |

These are great! Really like the first one though I agree with Benji, Id like the eye contact to be strong. Im doing a shoot Saturday where horse racing womens hats are the theme. Theyre HUGE brimmed. Any tips on getting light up in there?

Have to go with some soft light, I had an umbrella/brolly box as the key and then you set it a bit lower to make sure the bottom edge gets under the hat, I also watched the tilt of the head and did have them tip slightly away to help get some light under, and then a smidge of photoshop to lighten the area right under the brim if it needs it. |

Hand gripping the butt of the gun with the gun still in holster. Hand gripping the gun butt which is drawn out of the holster. Gun is poimted toward the bottom right edge of the composition. Hand holding the pocket watch and the Marshall looking at it. Hand returning the watch to its pocket Marshall looking at us. Benji |
