Default I found this funny and a tad baffling.

Prenatal Photographer with Hairy Subjects What a Crappy Job

Ok now seriously, who is at fault? The photographer or the guy in the picture?

I see two potential scenarios of how this image was born.

A) The photographer somehow thinks this is a good idea.

B) Daddy -to- be insisted to have his shirt off.

I'm not even going to give my opinion if it is "Possibility A."

As far as "Possibility B". As a photographer, is it your responsibility to advise the guy that perhaps the no shirt idea is not the best choice?

Different cultures have different levels of what is or isn't acceptable, for instance in some countries it's normal for women NOT to shave their armpits. For instance the rock star Nena (99 Red Baloons)...people were grossed out, I couldn't understand what the issue was, but I grew up with it.

Same with back hair, by your comments your culture shaves it off...me, mine is left untouched. When I last started a new relationship I brought it up whether I should have it removed, and she said "we'll see"...she never complained!

Looks to me like the couple is comfortable with who they are. I find the only fault is the prejudicial opinions being expressed by the posters.

Im not sure if predjedicial would be the right word. It is more of a culture thing. As mentioned by Mike, different cultures behave differently. Like the hairy armpit thing, I think it is totally gross. Most westerners do. In this day and age its considered lazy and unclean.

I dont understand why the photo was taken with the guys shirt off. If that was a buddy of mine, I would of gone 'Dude....seriously. Put your shirt on'. If the guy suggested it, then fine. Its going on his wall, not mine. But if it was the photographer who suggested it......

If they like the photo this way then fine. For me personally it takes away from it. But I'm not puttin it on my wall. But part of what the web does is expose us to others and their culture. And I dont see it as a bad thing, just not one I could like as well. If I new them or was related to eiher of them it might seem fine.

My first thought was the only thing wrong is it being on the web but it isnt just the web, it's the 'world wide web'.

Sigh...

Ok I didn't mean it to be predudicial. I don't burn crosses in the front yards of hairy men.

I think it does take away from the picture AND you are just begging to have it seen by millions of people on the I-N-T-E-R-N-E-T.

I'm not so into hairy .... but that's a personal opinion.

If they are comfortable and happy with the results that's all that matters.

As far as buring crosses ... I hate the smell of burned hair.

So let's not! :P

What I noticed somewhat different was the guys eyes. I can't tell if he is glad or really p--o--ed. As far as the hair and the reason the photo was taken that way is of no concern. Like stated earlier, it's not going on my wall or in my family photo album.

It does.

The image's subject should be clear an unambiguous. In this case, mama's belly. Therefore; lighting, posing and post production should have been done to remove all things distracting and place emphasis on the subject.

It has nothing at all to do with regional tastes and prejudices .. and everything to do with photography 101.
