To each his own though....I guess if you truely want to get rid of your film equipment, find it a good home with somebody that wants to "cure" the digital effect and maybe get a nice camera bag with the proceeds.
How about turning your DSLR to SLR for a day tomorrow? See this thread for more info

I've got a Nikon HP an' 2 zooms, an Oly OM10 an' 2 zooms, and a couple o' Canon's I more or less inherited. All work well... as paperweights. Any body wants 'em make an offer. My better half jus' can't understand why I don't "just sell 'em; they still work!"

I have about six of them, including two original Canon F1s (steel bodies from the early 70s) along with assorted lenses gathering dust on a lit display case. They look good in there!

Sold or gave them away 6 years ago to include my old Leica collection. Regrets? Should have kept some of the Leica lenses.

It's in my old camera bag. My old lenses work dandy on my new fangled digital camera. It doesn't cost me anything to keep the old camera and I may use it again someday. It certainly does long exposure night photography better than any digital cameras.

You have to have a strict "use it or lose it" policy with digital cameras. Otherwise, you (1) lose a lot of money and (2) collect junk.

My 10 yr old son is using my A2e and EOS 620, he really likes shooting film. He wants a dslr, and might get one for his birthday coming up in Nov. I keep my Mamiya and other MF stuff put away, haven't shot with them in years.

Have Fun,

I still use all of my film equipment in addition to my digital gear. The are certain instances where I prefer the look of film or where my commercial clients require transparencies. I am well invested in Hasselblad equipment so I am going to digitize my equipment and have all my lenses in service. I am also going to digitize my Mamiya RZ!

Another alternative is to acquire a new Hasselblad digital body with one good zoom kens and have all my old lenses at my disposal as well.

I have purchased fine equipment in the past and it has paid off- there is no use in selling any of this gear for an outrageously low price when I can still use all of it and that older gear clearly does not owe me any money as it were.

If some crazy collector wants to buy any of my stuff for an outrageously high sum of money, I may consider selling some of it but only if there is enough money to buy a significant piece of new glass of my digital system.

Some of my old gear, especially my soft focus lenses can not be replicated in effect by any new gear, digital or analog.

I've disposed of only one film camera, a Minolta XG-1 35mm camera that came to be more problematic that it was worth - and which I had sent in twice to correct an electrical problem, because its shutter depended on batteries. Because of this, I vowed never to find myself in this position again, so I got rid of it at a camera show (sold to a dealer), and replaced it with a Nikon FM2. It will soon be joined by another FM2 and 55mm lens that were originally used by the Las Vegas Metropolitan PD CSI, giving me a tangible item that has a "spiritual" connection to the show, as well as a connection for my GF to her "home." (Watching CSI with my GF is an interestingly surreal experience.)

The two Nikons are companions to my Hasselblad 500C/M.

I got it from: CXSOnline.com

I ordered the CXS Ortho Green Film. According to discussions on the APUG forums, I should be able to rate it at approximately ASA 100 or 200. (I'll experiment a bit to see what works best for me.)

X-ray film is coated on both sides, and lacks an anti-halation layer. So, I expect I'll get slightly softer photos than I would with a single-sided emulsion, and have to be a bit more careful to avoid scratching before or during development. I use a hardening Kodak fixer, so I shouldn't have any trouble post-development.

Some folks on APUG have experimented with using household bleach to remove the "back" emulsion layer after developing and fixing, with
good results. It may be worth experimenting, just to see.

Having been a film guy for over 25 years I've got a lot of negs and prints to look at. I now use a digital camera but it still doesn't look as good as film. You take a film camera that's 30 years old
and throw some Fuji Velvia in there and it'll beat digi anyday. It just looks so good. But hey digital's convenient and that's what we all want. Isn't it?

Up until Dec. '08,my Bronica 645 and Canon A2 were used professionally.I am not currently in business.Film isn't the majority but I agree w/the others in that it's
not obsolete.Regardless of what I do w/photography business-wise,I will continue
shooting film.Film is currently the best it's ever been.So cheer up,go get a roll and do some shooting.I have a sneaky suspicion everythings going to be OK

Sold all of my old Nikon film gear to a gentleman who works for a newspaper. They still have a darkroom that they use occasionally. While I miss some of the lenses, that is all I miss.

I once had an idea for something that I thought should be programmed into every digital camera - photo limit. Where you would go into the menu & set either 6, 12, 16, 24, 36, 72, 100 or 250 exposures (120, 120, 120, 135, 135, 135 half frame, Canon's bulk film back, Nikon's bulk film back respectively). After the limit, you'd have to switch the camera off & turn it on again, or press a combination of buttons and wait 10 seconds that would be the film "reloading" time

What do I do with my "obsolete" film SLRs? Use them. I use my film SLRs more than my digital ones (little to no issues with battery, metering, AF messing up, bulk, noise etc). Also I find that for the same price, a film SLR is much better built than the digital equiv. (sick and tired of the use of plastic in cameras these days…what happened to metal & leather covering…Leica excluded from these complaints)
Also, I'm lazy, so it feels great letting my lab develop my film, scan it & get it all on a CD for me - when it goes on my computer all I have to do is move them into appropriate folders, label & archive the negatives+CD and deal with 36 photos. Whereas with digital (which I shot this week for specific reasons), I was dealing with ~200 photos a day and rejecting over 100, then dealing with correcting colour casts, contrast and the rest (shooting digital RAW and film RAW are 2 different things - not all RAW is created equal)
Also, while I've been able to add "grain" to a photo digitally, it lacks the texture of scanned negatives.
Did I mention full-frame advantage for a lot less money?

Still have a Canon AE1 and some lenses for it. I switched to Nikon when it was time to upgrade and found Canon had changed lens mounts and I would have to buy new lenses too. I still have my Nikon 8008s collecting dust but my old lenses still work on my new Nikon digitals.

Occasionally I look on Craigs List and eBay to see what the old stuff is going for. There are some high prices being asked on craigs List for the old stuff. Not sure if it ever sells. Ebay prices are not as high and seem like what the stuff is really worth. Not too much.
