I haven't used that lens and have only owned one Tamron lens in the past which I regret getting rid of. I found the quality to be excellent and better than some of Canons USM non L lenses. I would go with Tamron over any other non-brand name. Just my two cents worth..

I have the Tamron 28-200 which gives good results in my opinion . I know Mark loves his Tamron 28-200 di lens for its sharpness .

It was a few years back, but the lens length was around 70-300 (their better quality one).
